The film’s original titles were Night of Vengeance, Sex Crime of the Century, and Krug & Co. Just like with Chainsaw, the viewer is left to fill in the blanks. The most grotesque scene is a shot of one of the killers handling one of the girl’s intestines. Last House doesn’t have grotesque over-the-top kills.

We’re introduced to popular suburban teen Mari Collingwood (Sandra Peabody) who’s celebrating her 17th birthday. Much to her parent’s dismay, Mari has plans to attend a rock concert in the city with her friend Phyllis (Lucy Grantham). The parents accidentally find out the identities of the killers, because of a stolen locket and some blood-stained clothing in their baggage.
Krug attempts to flee, but after being cornered by a traumatized Sadie and a chainsaw-wielding John, he is incapacitated by an electrocution booby trap. Sadie, now terrified of both Krug and John, runs outside. After a scuffle between her and Estelle, she falls into the backyard swimming pool where her throat is slit by Estelle. The sheriff arrives just as John kills Krug with the chainsaw. The documentary-style shooting of the film creates a “home movie” effect, which adds to the realism. Scenes of rape and torture are intercut with scenes of animatedly happy birthday cake making and bumbling cops set to lively rustic country music.

"Last House on the Left" is a tough, bitter little sleeper of a movie that's about four times as good as you'd expect. There is a moment of such sheer and unexpected terror that it beats anything in the heart-in-the-mouth line since Alan Arkin jumped out of the darkness at Audrey Hepburn in "Wait Until Dark."
Her parents, Estelle and John, express their concern about her friendship with Phyllis but let her go and give her a peace symbol necklace. Before the concert, Mari and Phyllis encounter Junior while trying to buy marijuana. He leads them to an apartment where they are trapped by the criminals.
Opinions on The Last House on the Left are split. Some people think it’s a great horror movie while others think it’s just trashy exploitation. Sure, the acting is shoddy at points particularly in the case of Mari’s parents. The fact that they’re so convincing adds dimension to the horror element. After they change out of their bloody clothes, the gang goes to the Collingwoods' home, masquerading as traveling salesmen. The gang finds photos of Mari and realizes it is her home.
In a scene where Mari is ordered to piss her pants, actress Sandra Peabody did actually piss her pants. Infamous reputation aside, the film served as a starting point for two filmmakers who would go on to create and contribute to two major horror franchises. Producer Sean Cunningham served as producer and co-creator of the Friday the 13th franchise and writer and director Wes Craven, is the legendary creator of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
She crawls to a nearby tree and is stabbed to death. Mari convinces Junior to let her go, but her escape is halted by Krug. Krug carves his name into her chest, then rapes her. Mari vomits, quietly says a prayer, and walks into a nearby lake, where Krug fatally shoots her.
